Daniel Dye grabbed the final transfer spot from Tanner Gray in Saturday’s race, and the stage points made all the difference for him. Among the must-win riders, Layne Riggs came closest to a last-minute win, but ended up in fifth place.
“It’s really good to give myself credit and the work I put in to change what I was doing,” Dye told Fox Sports 1. “It’s so cool that our No. 43 truck is in the playoffs. I’m super stoked! It wasn’t easy. It’s not an easy track. I’m just proud of everybody. Everyone worked so hard to keep me under control and not let me get too rattled. Man, I’m proud to be here.”
Gray was hard on himself and visibly upset with the result, telling FS1, “We just weren’t good enough. All day long we just lacked the speed, the balance and I didn’t do well enough…really frustrated. When you go into a race where you’re on the cut like that, you just have to be better and we weren’t tonight.”
“Congratulations to Daniel (Dye). They were better and they were better when it mattered. We just made too many mistakes overall throughout the season. Just too sloppy. We’ve got to fix that and I’ve got to fix a lot of things on my side. We’ve just got to get better.”
Christian Eckes secured the regular season championship while Ty Majeski won the race after a dramatic overtaking maneuver on Grant Enfinger in the closing stages of the race. After the points reset, Heim leads the championship standings with 2,041 points.
