Who knew a preseason game could be so much fun? If a regular season had ended the way the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Baltimore Ravens did in Week 1, we would have screamed “instant classic.” Then again, if we were talking about the regular season, Baltimore probably wouldn’t have pushed the topic so far into its own sphere.
The game doesn’t count toward Philly’s win-loss record, but Patrick Johnson should be credited with giving us his best Brandon Graham impersonation. His strip sack gave Jake Elliott a second chance at a potential game-winning shot after Jake missed one a few seconds earlier.
It’s funny that we mention Graham. His most famous play came on football’s biggest stage against the New England Patriots. We’re now in Week 2. The Birds will have a joint practice session with the Pats before these proud franchises meet for a preseason game on Thursday.
Well, they are not exactly the same two teams. The coaches have changed. A lot of players have changed too. Well, Jake and BG are still on the Eagles roster, so we are happy.
The Eagles and Patriots will meet again on August 15th at 7:00 p.m. EST. Mark your calendar and settle in in front of the TV to watch this game.
This is the Eagles’ second road game. They’ll rock out in Foxborough at Gillette Stadium before Philly returns to the City of Brotherly Love to host the Minnesota Vikings in the final preseason game.
You can watch this show by tuning into NBC10 in Philly or, if you live outside of that area, NFL Network. We recommend Fubo TV for watching. If you’re interested, they offer free trials for new subscribers.
As of the time of this story’s publication, DraftKings favors the hometown Patriots by 2.5 points. The moneyline as of August 13 at 6 a.m. EST was -148 for the Pats versus +124 for Philly. The OVER/UNDER at that time was 36.5 points.
We thought we would see a series from the starters in the Week 1 preseason affair. A wet playing surface forced the Eagles coaching staff to change their mind on that decision. We are less confident we will see the starters on Thursday.
Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee will share snaps at quarterback. The latter ran with the bottom half of the roster last time out. The hope is that he will get some snaps with the second team this time around. Hopefully that will give us a chance to better gauge his development.
