Start time, channel, how to watch and stream the Brazil game on Peacock

The Philadelphia Eagles face the Green Bay Packers tonight and open the 2024 NFL season with a unique Friday night game in Brazil.

Not only is it the first NFL game to be played in South America, but it is also the league’s last game in its first week on a Friday night, when the then St. Louis Cardinals faced the Los Angeles Rams on September 18, 1970.

For fans living in and around Philadelphia, tonight’s game will be broadcast on NBC10, with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Philly time. The game will also be broadcast on local TV in Green Bay and Milwaukee, but for everyone else, it will stream exclusively on Peacock, NBC’s subscription streaming service.

Although NBC is broadcasting the game tonight, Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth will not be commentating. Instead, Eagles fans will be introduced to a new commentating duo calling their first Birds game together: Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge, the best commentating duo in NBC’s Big Ten coverage.

Blackledge will certainly be a household name for college football fans throughout the Delaware Valley. Not only was he one of the top college football commentators for CBS, ESPN and now NBC for three decades, but he was Penn State’s starting quarterback during the 1982 national championship season. Blackledge also commentated on the Eagles’ preseason games for a few seasons in the early 1990s after playing seven years in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers.

“At the time, I was just trying to get reps in,” Blackledge said. “Being able to play in preseason games and build my resume before entering the college season was really, really valuable to my career development.”

Eagle and Blackledge expect it to be loud at Corinthians Arena tonight and said many of the sights and sounds of São Paulo will be incorporated into the broadcast. NBC will also forego the traditional commercial breaks just before kickoff and at the end of the first quarter and will stay on the field to listen to analysis from studio analysts Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison, who will be in the stadium.

Football on Sunday evening Coordinating producer Rob Hyland described it as a “studio takeover,” an innovation that the folks at NBC wanted to introduce to Peacock with the goal of “more engaging” viewers during traditional commercial breaks.

Another new feature is that NBC can now talk to an Eagles player in full uniform, either at the end of warmups or right after they walk off. And head coaches are now required to do interviews with the network’s sideline reporters during the game, although Nick Sirianni is not a fan of it.

“I’ve never done one,” Sirianni said in an interview with 94.1 WIP last season. “I don’t want to talk to anyone but my coaches during that time. I don’t want to talk to anyone but my players during that time. That’s why I’m not doing it.”

As for the game itself, Eagle is most interested in how often Jalen Hurts will play under new center Cam Jurgens thanks to the changes made by new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

“This was a team that played 93% of its snaps from the shotgun position last season. That’s an insane number,” Eagle said.

Both radio broadcasts can be streamed from anywhere in the country on the Eagles website, while fans in Philly can also stream them on the Eagles app.

For logistical and technical reasons, neither radio team traveled to Brazil to commentate on the match. Westwood One commentators Scott Graham and Mike Mayock also did not make the trip. Instead, all three will commentate on the match remotely via monitors.
