StarHub launches ultra-low latency Data Center Connect service

StarHub has launched its Low Latency Data Centre Connect service, which provides ultra-low latency data centre connections to local and regional businesses. This service improves interconnectivity, enhances access to cloud services and introduces advanced network slicing and quantum-safe communications.

Tan Kit Yong, Head of Enterprise Business Group at StarHub, highlighted the importance of low latency in real-time data processing, faster application responses and seamless user experiences. “The need for low latency data center connectivity has never been greater,” he said, stressing how important it is for time-critical operations and interactive applications.

The connectivity service is currently available in multiple data centers and offers sub-1ms latency to cable landing stations and advanced SDN capabilities with a self-service portal. It also offers quantum-safe communications and service orchestration capabilities aimed at reducing costs, improving efficiency and enhancing the user experience.

The first Point-of-Presence (POP) was launched in May with Global Switch, offering customers in Singapore a secure connection to a global network of key data centers and submarine cable POPs. This groundbreaking collaboration enabled seamless connectivity for Singapore-based businesses.

Since then, StarHub has expanded its network ecosystem, partnering with Ciena, Digital Realty and Terrabit Networks. By leveraging Ciena’s 800G encryption on Waveserver 5, StarHub can deliver ultra-low latency connectivity across multiple data centers.

Matt Vesperman, Regional Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Ciena, said: “Ciena’s flexible, scalable and secure network foundation enables StarHub to provide unmatched connectivity to its customers through its Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) service.” He added that the DCI solution is inherently resistant to quantum computing attacks on key exchange algorithms.

Govind Choudhary, Vice President of Strategy & Business Development for Asia Pacific at Digital Realty, also commented, “This collaboration between StarHub and Digital Realty strengthens our Singapore campus as a strategic connectivity hub by providing customers with ultra-low latency connectivity to our strategically located data centers, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
