St. Mirren boss hopes for “life-changing, fairytale” win against Brann

St. Mirren’s manager is aware that further progress would be met with great approval in their home town.

“You saw in Paisley how it escalated after we equalised. Everyone was full of joy,” he said. “We have waited a very, very long time for this.”

“Ultimately, I would say we need to continue to offer more regular trips to Europe, and not just once every 40 years.

“Everyone would be delighted to enable the fans to travel again. They will be here in Norway in large numbers again. Travel to these countries is very expensive. That is the motivation for the players.”

St Mirren, who finished fifth in the Scottish Premiership last season, followed up a 3-0 opening day win over Hibernian with a 3-1 away defeat to Aberdeen on Sunday.

Robinson is aware that his team “need to improve by another 10% to beat this team”, which finished second in Norway last season and is currently in third place.

“We believe we are much better than we have shown,” he said. “We have to play against a very good Brann team. And that is the motivation, to show people how good you are.”

“We have to play better. We were very good without possession. We were very well trained and very well organised.

“But we didn’t play. It was probably one of our worst performances on the ball for a few months. It improved enormously against Aberdeen.”

Robinson is aware that a win against Brann would be a big surprise.

“When you look at the size of the football club and the resources at its disposal, it goes way beyond anything we could imagine,” he added.

“So it’s a fantastic demonstration of our strength and commitment to hold on until the 96th minute when we’re up against them and getting a result without being anywhere near our best.”
