BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – A prospective college athlete has once again traded in the green and yellow of the Mandan Chiefs for the black and white of the Mandan Braves. Multi-sport star Hudsen Sheldon is back on the football field for his senior year.

“One day we play football, and the next day we have an open court for basketball. We just don’t try to cram everything into one small area, we just do our best no matter what the day brings,” said Mandan Braves quarterback Hudsen Sheldon.

“I think Hudsen embodied the multi-sport athlete — when you play one sport, you’re in that sport. He committed to football, he committed to basketball, he committed to baseball, and he made that commitment,” said Todd Sheldon, head coach of the Mandan football team.

As is the case with athletes of his age and talent, Hudsen has received offers from several colleges.

“It’s time to make a decision and I think I’ve gotten better at thinking seriously about what I want to do in the future,” Hudsen said.

“His development as an athlete – he has some genetics – is great for him, but what he does with those assets and how we can help him develop as a quarterback, I think gives him a certain level of, ‘Hey, this is pretty awesome,'” Todd said.

Even though he has a difficult decision to make, Hudsen remains focused on what lies immediately before him.

“Everyone wants to be a state champion. Obviously, that’s something I’ve worked toward my whole life, no matter what sport. It’s going to be really special to bring a state championship in football to Mandan. I’m just enjoying the moment, just looking around and enjoying senior year. You know, everyone says, ‘I wish I could go back to high school and play this sport again.’ No matter what sport it is, I attend every practice and every game,” Hudsen said.

Mandan’s football season begins next Friday against Shanley.
