The Kansas City Royals beat the Reds 7-1 last night at Great American Ball Park. KC had a 3-1 lead entering the 9th inning, but scored four runs during the inning to win the game. Tyler Stephenson scored the Reds’ only run with an RBI double that scored Jonathan India in the 6th inning. Former Red Michael Lorenzen started for the Royals and scored the win. Nick Martinez took the loss for Cincinnati. Game 2 of the series is tonight. Coverage begins at 6:10 on 103.9 WRBI.

The Indiana Fever defeated the Phoenix Mercury 98-89 in WNBA play at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Caitlin Clark led the way with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell sank six 3-pointers and scored 28. Two other players scored in double figures for Indianapolis. With the win, the Fever improved their record to 12-15 on the year and completed a three-game sweep of the season series against Phoenix.

This afternoon, the boys soccer team returns to WRBI for another season when Oldenburg Academy visits East Central. Coverage begins at 2 p.m. on 103.9 FM, wrbiradio.com and the WRBI app.

As part of their NFL preparations, the Bengals will face the Chicago Bears this afternoon at Soldier Field. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. The Colts will host the Arizona Cardinals at Lucas Oil Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

In auto racing, the IndyCar series returns from its Olympic break tonight with a race in a St. Louis suburb. NASCAR’s Cup series takes place tomorrow afternoon at Michigan International Speedway. Kyle Larson leads the points standings, five points ahead of Tyler Reddick, who is one point ahead of Chase Elliott.
