According to Southern York County Regional Police, two Stewartstown residents reported receiving scam calls within a two-hour period on Monday.

According to police, the caller identified himself as a lieutenant with the York County Sheriff’s Office and wanted to speak to a specific person who lives at that address.

The scammer said the person failed to appear for a summons and was told to report to 45 N. George Street in York City or the person would be arrested by officers.

The address is “York County Judicial Center” and the phone number displayed on the victim’s phone is a valid York County 911 emergency number, police said.

However, Southern York County Regional Police said investigators believe the scammers were trying to lure people out of their homes to rob them.

Anyone who receives a similar call should contact their local police department if they have any doubts about its legitimacy, police said.

Anyone living in the southern York County regional jurisdiction, which includes Glen Rock, New Freedom, Shrewsbury, Stewartstown, Railroad, Southern School District and Southeastern School District, should call 717-235-3944.
