Robby Ashford started the second half of South Carolina’s home game against No. 16 LSU at quarterback after starter LaNorris Sellers went down with a right ankle injury late in the second quarter.
“We’re going to go in there and look at it and see where we stand,” coach Shane Beamer told ABC sideline reporter Holly Rowe.
“It doesn’t help, but we have confidence in Robby Ashford and Davis Beville.”
Sellers was sacked by LSU’s Bradyn Swinson for a loss of four yards on the second-to-last play of the half. Sellers appeared to be resting his right foot afterward, leaving the field and substitute Robby Ashford was put in.
Sellers finished the half 8-of-15 air throws for 112 yards and an interception. He ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns, including a 75-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that set a USC record for the longest touchdown run by a quarterback.
Three quarterbacks from South Carolina – Sellers, Ashford and newcomer Dante Reno –were seen throwing on the sidelines when USC returned to the field after halftime.
Rowe said at the start of the second half that Sellers’ ankle was heavily bandaged but he was limping: “He will try to play. They’re just not sure how much he can do.”
