Sources – Chiefs’ Hollywood Brown expected to miss regular season

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who was placed on the injured list on Friday with a shoulder injury that requires surgery, is not expected to play in the regular season, ESPN’s Adam Schefter learned from sources.

There is still a chance Brown could return for the postseason, but he is not expected back until mid-January, sources told Schefter.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday that Brown is expected to be out for “months” – not “weeks” – because of his sternoclavicular injury.

Brown suffered the injury after catching a pass on the first play of the Chiefs’ first preseason game against the Jaguars on Aug. 10. He did not play in last week’s season-opening win over the Ravens, but appeared likely to be back for Sunday’s home game against the Bengals.

Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs’ vice president of sports medicine and performance, said Brown was “doing great in rehab,” but a final examination of his shoulder revealed that the bone in Brown’s shoulder had shifted, ultimately leading to the decision to undergo surgery.

Brown, 27, was the Chiefs’ most important free agent this offseason after spending the past two seasons with the Cardinals. His best season was 2021 with Baltimore, when he caught 91 passes for 1,008 yards.

ESPN’s Adam Teicher contributed to this report.
