Sources: 4 dead and 30 injured in shooting at Georgia high school, suspect in custody

According to CNN, at least four people are believed to have been killed and 30 others injured in a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect was taken into custody. The suspect is of school age, but it is unclear whether or not he was a high school student himself.

The high school was locked down around 10:20 a.m. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is in the process of reuniting students with their families.

According to the White House, President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation.

“President Biden has been briefed by Homeland Security Advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall on the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, and his administration will continue to coordinate with federal, state, and local authorities as we receive more information.”

During a press conference on Wednesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland said he was devastated for the families affected by the tragedy and offered federal assistance to the local community.

“I want to address the tragic shooting that occurred this morning at a high school in Winder, Georgia. We are still gathering information, but the FBI and ATF are on the scene working with state, local and federal partners,” said AG Garland. “The Department of Justice stands ready to provide any resources or assistance the community of Winder needs in the coming days.”
