LINEUPS: There are three changes to the Sounders lineup from last week: Stefan Frei returns to goal, Obed Vargas returns from international duty and Georgi Minoungou replaces Pedro de la Vega, who is on the bench.
The Seattle Sounders are now in the final stretch of their playoff campaign, as they have the first of three consecutive home games that will likely determine their place in the Western Conference. If they take all nine points, they have a good chance of finishing in the top four and securing home-court advantage in the first round. If they slip up in any of the games, they will likely just be fighting to stay out of the play-in game.
The first of those games is against Sporting KC, a team that has struggled this year but has had success at Lumen Field in the past. Sporting KC is 4-1-0 in its last five road games in Seattle, including a 2-1 win here last year. Overall, the two teams are 12-12-4 against each other in all competitions.
A Sounders win today would move them up to fifth place and just one point from third place in the Western Conference standings. A loss would put them in seventh place, just three points from the playoffs, with each of their chasing teams having a game in hand.
