Kraven the Hunterthe next installment in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, has received its MPA rating. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays the upcoming superhero film’s title character, Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven.

According to FilmRatings.com, The Motion Picture Association has given an R rating to Kraven the Hunter due to the film’s intense bloody violence and language.” This should come as no surprise to any fan who has followed this project since its inception. The “R” rating was always intended to ensure that Sony would release the highly anticipated film. Unless Venom: The Last Dance also received an R rating, which Tom Hardy suggests that, Kraven the Hunter will be the first SSU entry to be rated R, after the previous four films — Poison, Venom: Let there be carnage, MorbiusAnd Madame Web — also rated PG-13.

Development on KRaven the Hunter began in August 2018, when Sony hired Richard Wenk to write a script for the film. The studio officially pitched the film to the public in March 2019, with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway joining in August 2020 to rewrite the script after making uncredited revisions for the 2022 film. Kraven the Hunter has been repeatedly postponed

Kraven the Hunter was originally scheduled to be released in January 2023, but was then postponed to October 2023. Originally planned as the fourth part of the SSU in July 2023, Kraven was postponed again, with Sony sending the film to August 2024. However, this would not be the final change in the release date for Kraven as the film was postponed to December 13, 2024 at the beginning of the year.
