PROVO, Utah – The BYU football team will face an SMU team in a new uniform this Friday night in Dallas.
SMU unveiled a new red uniform with a white helmet and red face mask to be worn against the Cougars.

BYU will wear a new uniform combination that is all white and navy blue
BYU, meanwhile, will wear a uniform combination for the first time. The Cougars will wear an all-white uniform with navy blue numbers and stripes and a navy blue helmet with a white face shield.
Friday night’s meeting will be the fifth time the two schools have met. BYU has never lost to the Mustangs and holds a perfect 4-0 record.
The last time BYU played SMU in Dallas was in 1997, when the two were members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). As with the 2024 meeting, SMU wore a red uniform in that game.

BYU wore a white jersey and royal blue pants in the 1997 game, where current head coach Kalani Sitake played fullback and rushed for six yards on two carries in the 19-16 Cotton Bowl victory.
SMU is asking its fans to wear red for Friday’s games at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, while BYU fans have been asked to wear royal blue for away games.
The matchup will feature two undefeated teams, as BYU enters the matchup with a 1-0 record after defeating FCS-based Southern Illinois in the season opener.
SMU is 2-0 to start the season after wins over Nevada and FCS Houston Christian last week.
