Slightly cloudy this evening, temperatures on Tuesday will be almost normal.

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – My goodness, what a beautiful weekend in Eastern Kentucky! Mother Nature gave us a nice taste of fall with highs of 80 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

Headlines:

– The sunshine will last for a few more days

– Temperatures rise above normal again

– The probability of thunderstorms is increasing again

DISCUSSION:

After getting a little taste of fall this past weekend and even Monday, the evening hours will remain relatively cool, with lows in the 10s to 15s. As for lows, that trend will continue through the first half of the work week. As for highs, we’ll unfortunately climb back up to 28s to 30s, and yes, 35s may be possible in parts of the WYMT viewing area as we head into the second half of the work week.

As far as rain and thunderstorms are concerned, isolated showers and thunderstorms will increase again from Thursday and continue until Friday and into the weekend.

OUTLOOK:

Since June 28th, 45 days ago, our average temperature has been 85 degrees. Starting on August 20th, our average temperature drops to 84 degrees and on August 29th to 83 degrees. This shows that we are slowly approaching winter.

The first day of meteorological fall is upon us. While the autumnal equinox (first day of fall) is on September 22 at 8:44 a.m., meteorological fall begins on September 1. We’ll discuss why meteorologists have a different start date for fall in the First Alert Weather App on September 1, so make sure you have the app to see the answer.

Enjoy the rest of the evening!
