Skylar Thompson leaves the Dolphins’ loss to the Seahawks with a chest injury

SEATTLE – Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson will miss the remainder of Sunday’s 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks after suffering a pectoral injury in the second half.

Thompson, making his first start of the season in place of the injured Tua Tagovailoa, was hit hard on Miami’s second drive of the third quarter and remained on the ground for several minutes while medical trainers tended to him. He was eventually able to leave the field and return to the Dolphins’ locker room under his own power.

Thompson was replaced by third-string quarterback Tim Boyle, who was signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad prior to Week 1 and was promoted after Tagovailoa was placed on the injured list this week.

Miami signed quarterback Tyler Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad last week, but he was not active in Sunday’s game; Huntley was listed as the team’s emergency quarterback.

Before leaving the game, Thompson had completed 13 of 19 passes for 107 yards and was sacked five times in his fourth career start.

The Dolphins will be without Tagovailoa for at least three more games after he suffered a concussion in Week 2. NFL rules state that any player on the injured list must miss at least four games, but it is unclear when Tagovailoa will be back. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel has insisted there is no timetable and the team is focused on getting Tagovailoa healthy again.

Tagovailoa remains in concussion protocol but was able to travel with the team to Seattle.

Thompson wasn’t the only Dolphins starter out Sunday. Cornerback Kendall Fuller left the game with a concussion, while left tackle Terron Armstead was out with an eye injury.
