Six local artists exhibit their works in the exhibition “Creative Connections” – BG Independent News

From the BOWLING GREEN ARTS COUNCIL

“Creative Connections,” the newest exhibition at the Bowling Green Arts Council (BGAC) ArtSpace, opens with a reception and annual meeting on Friday, August 23, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The ArtSpace is located at the back entrance of Coyote Beads, 178 S. Main St. in Bowling Green. The show runs through September 28.

Creative Connections features six local artists selected for the 2024 Community Supported Art (CSA) program. Community Supported Agriculture has become a popular way for consumers to purchase seasonal food directly from local farms. With the same spirit of buying local, this CSA brings local art, artists and collectors together.

This year’s artists are Ann Beck, Catherine Clements, Jax Foster, Jackie Meier, Roux Wells-Jensen and Yuemin Xin.

Known for both jewelry and large-scale work, Beck incorporates symbols, colors, and elements of the places she has lived and traveled, emphasizing design and the use of rich, dynamic colors.

Clements collects photographs, short poems and prose, and archived digital content that evoke personal memories and experiences. She transforms this source material into her art through printmaking, bookbinding, and papermaking.

Foster has experimented with numerous mediums to explore the arts, including ceramics, wood burning and watercolor painting before moving on to oil painting. They use each work to explore new ideas by drawing inspiration from plants, food, animals and pop culture.

After a career as a graphic designer and art director, Meier has returned to her original love of mixed media painting. Her work reflects her desire to create harmony out of chaos, to make the invisible visible and the unheard audible.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Wells-Jensen works in a variety of media, including oil painting and printmaking, exploring not only the suffering but also the beauty of marginalized identities through his art.

Born in Inner Mongolia, China, Xin specializes in the “freehand mountain water” and “freehand flower bird” techniques of traditional Chinese ink and water painting. Since arriving in the United States, she has been an active member of the art community, teaching Chinese art, participating in several juried exhibitions, and creating murals in Toledo.

The goals of the CSA program are to support artists and create a dedicated community of local arts supporters. CSA supports artists in creating new work and building relationships with local collectors and patrons, as well as providing an opportunity to help launch an exciting new model of arts promotion and distribution. Benefits for CSA members include multiple artworks from emerging and established local artists, the opportunity to build relationships with local artists and the arts community, discover new artists, and learn about a variety of disciplines represented in our arts community.

The BGAC is a volunteer organization that partners with local artists, arts organizations and arts supporters to provide inspiration, entertainment and learning opportunities to the Bowling Green community.
