Singer announces relationship with Samuel L. Jackson

We all knew Janet Jackson had a talented pedigree, but this is a whole new level.

The pop icon, who is currently on the European leg of her Together Again tour, visited the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Tuesday when host Scott Mills asked to learn more about her star-studded extended family tree.

“Someone told me this earlier: Are you related to Stevie (Wonder)?” he asked.

“He’s our cousin,” replied Jackson, 58. “Not many people know that. He’s our cousin on our mother’s side. Just like Tracy Chapman.”

She continued, “Samuel L. Jackson, too.” The jury is still out on that last familial connection, however, as Samuel L. Jackson told Wired in its 2017 “Most Searched Questions” series that he was not related to the Jackson clan. It does not appear that Wonder or Chapman have ever commented on or confirmed their relationship to the Jacksons.

Janet Jackson is, of course, the sister of the late Michael Jackson, who frequently collaborated with Wonder on the songs “Just Good Friends” and “Get It.” The pair continued to perform together and provide background vocals for each other before Michael Jackson’s death in 2009.

Janet Jackson has been on the road since June to continue her Together Again tour, which she has been undertaking since April 2023. The tour is currently scheduled to end on October 13 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Named after their 1997 No. 1 hit, it was their first tour in four years and featured a setlist of nearly three dozen songs – albeit many in medley form – including the hits “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “That’s the Way Love Goes,” “Doesn’t Really Matter” and the rarely heard album tracks “Damita Jo” and “So Excited.”
