Sigourney Weaver reveals that “Avatar 3” will not be her last film in the series

The Avatar The franchise has successfully etched its legacy into cinema history with its two installments. Both Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water achieved gigantic numbers at the worldwide box office and are currently ranked among the three highest-grossing films of all time. James Cameron has already revealed plans for further sequels and confirmed at least three more films in the franchise. In a recent discussion, veteran actress Sigourney Weaver also gave insight into her future in the Avatar universe.

Sigourney Weaver confirms plans for Avatar 4 and 5

Sigourney Weaver recently announced that she will appear in Cameron’s upcoming films “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5.”

Weaver played the character Dr. Grace Augustine in the first Avatar film. Augustine gave her life during the conflict between humans and Na’vi. Despite this, Weaver was able to return for Avatar: The Way of Water as Kiri, the 14-year-old daughter of Augustine’s Na’vi counterpart.

The Alien actress had previously confirmed her participation in the third part of the film series, entitled Avatar: Fire and Ashes. In an interview with Deadline, Sigourney Weaver spoke about her role in future Avatar sequels. The 74-year-old actress congratulated James Cameron on his work and also gave insights into her involvement in the third film.

“I’m so happy for Jim and for the success of these films that allows us to keep making them,” Weaver said. “I just finished work on Avatar 3 earlier this month and I think the series is going to continue to grow and become more and more exciting,” she added.

When asked about her role in Avatar 4 and 5 and whether she will be in them, Sigourney Weaver replied, “Yes, I think I can say that.” She also gave details on their development, claiming the films are already written. “We know what they are. They’re really good. But Jim is finishing three more. It’s nice to look forward to that,” she continued.

The titles of the fourth and fifth films are currently being kept secret. Furthermore, it is not known whether Sigourney Weaver will return as Kiri in the upcoming Avatar films or take on another role.

The third installment in the franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ashes, will be released in theaters on December 19, 2025.
