A report of gunfire near UC Berkeley’s Clark Kerr Track and Hillside Campus sparked a manhunt and curfew Thursday, authorities said.

In the end, police reported no injuries or arrests and stated that as of about 1:40 p.m., there was “no known threat to the UC Berkeley campus.”

“The lockdown has been lifted for all areas of campus,” UC Berkeley said in a prepared statement.

The incident began at 7:40 a.m. Thursday when “police responded to a report of two shots fired near UC Berkeley’s Clark Kerr Track.”

“Multiple police agencies thoroughly searched the area and utilized all available resources, but the suspect was not apprehended,” UC Berkeley said Thursday afternoon.

Campus officials advised “community members in the area to continue to exercise caution” even though the curfew has been lifted.

The police investigation is ongoing.

Authorities described the suspect as a white man wearing a black shirt and black pants and carrying a red backpack.

“The suspect’s hair is described as ‘bleached’ with possible red or orange highlights,” UC Berkeley said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call UCPD at 510-642-6760.

“We recognize this may have been a frightening experience,” campus officials said. “Students seeking support are asked to contact Counseling and Psychological Services in the Tang Center. If you would like to speak with a counselor, call 510-642-9494. Students may also walk in without an appointment Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you need to reach a counselor outside of business hours, call 855-817-5667.”
