A shooting was reported near the MIT Sailing Pavilion in Cambridge on Sunday evening following a road rage incident on Memorial Drive.
Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of the gazebo around 5:15 p.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that before the shooting, two drivers who did not know each other were apparently involved in an argument that was caused by road rage.
One of the drivers, Cesar Gutierrez, 65, of Revere, allegedly struck the other driver, Kevin Osorio, 30, of Boston, with a blunt object.
“After intercepting the blow, Osorio drew his weapon and fired several shots at Gutierrez,” state police said in a statement.
Osorio had a firearms permit at the time of the incident and his firearm was seized at the scene along with several cartridge cases.
Both men were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries.
Both men have been charged in connection with the incident.
