Short tour of the EB110 Sport Competizione with Bugatti designer Frank Heyl

This year, the Bugatti EB110 Sport Competizione has a good chance of winning the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It is undoubtedly a special car, and who better to explain that than Bugatti Design Director Frank Heyl.

The EB110 Sport Competizione marks the end of an era, as it was the last EB110 to leave the Campogalliano factory, known as “La Fabbrica Blu”. It was also the last Bugatti racing car. Speaking of which, the EB110 SC competed in the 1995 and 1996 seasons. It also took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but was unable to take part in the race due to an accident in pre-qualifying.

Frank’s knowledge of Bugattis is impeccable and it’s always fun to watch his short and snappy, yet very informative videos. Here he points out the differences between the EB110 road car and the Sport Competizione.

In the next video, Frank takes us through the interior of the Sport Competizione. As you will see, this is a full-fledged race car, yet still a street-legal car with a license plate.

The Sport Competizione is based on the EB110 Super Sport but has a bespoke body. It is powered by the same V12 quad-turbo engine as the road car, although power was limited to 600 hp under GT1 class regulations at the time.

To give you a little background on Frank Heyl, he took over the management of the design department at Bugatti from Achim Anscheidt, who will retire in July 2023. Frank has been involved in various design projects, including Chiron, Divo, Mistral and most recently the Bugatti Tourbillon.
