Shooting near street festival leaves a teenager and two men injured; suspected shooters claim self-defense – The Oakland Press

A shooting in Pontiac early Saturday morning near a street festival left a teenager and two men injured – and two men arrested, officials said.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the suspected shooters are claiming self-defense.

A “ghost gun” – a firearm without a serial number – was reportedly recovered at the crime scene along with several cartridge cases.

The shooting occurred just before 3 a.m. on Aug. 17 in the 200 block of East Wilson Avenue. Sheriff’s officers were breaking up a large street party near Wilson and Sanford streets when shots were fired, the sheriff’s office said. A 16-year-old and one of the men were shot multiple times and taken to an area hospital; a short time later, another man called police from Canterbury Drive and said he had been shot and was with the shooters, the sheriff’s office said.

Two Pontiac men, ages 24 and 22, contacted the sheriff’s office and said they were involved in the shooting — in self-defense, according to the sheriff’s office. The two also said they hold a CPL, the sheriff’s office said.

After being interviewed by investigators from the Pontiac Branch, the two were taken into custody and booked into the Oakland County Jail. Criminal charges, which could include aggravated assault/attempted murder, are pending.

One of the shooting victims, a 24-year-old man, was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries Monday morning, the sheriff’s office said. Another man, a 28-year-old, is hospitalized with leg injuries; the 16-year-old — reportedly shot in the buttocks — is not hospitalized, the sheriff’s office said. All are Pontiac residents.

The Oakland Press will continue to report on this incident as more details become available.
