“Shogun” wins, team celebrates translation

Shogun crowned his big night at the 2024 Emmys with a decisive victory.

The FX/Hulu series won for best drama series, securing its fourth award of the evening. Shogunwhich received 25 Emmy nominations for its first season, beat the other nominees in the category The Crown, Stand out, The Gilded Age, The morning show, Mr and Mrs Smith, Slow horses And 3 Body problem.

In his acceptance speech, co-creator Justin Marks thanked those responsible for making the show possible. “You greenlit a very expensive subtitled Japanese historical drama that culminates in a poetry contest,” Marks joked. “I have no idea why you did that, but thank you for putting your faith in this incredible team.”

He continued: “Shogun is a show about translation – not about what gets lost, but about what you find when you conduct safety meetings in two languages ​​and learn not to walk on tatami mats in work boots.”

Marks then shared the spotlight with star Hiroyuki Sanada, who delivered a message in Japanese that was partially translated as: “The passion and dreams we inherited from you have crossed oceans and borders.”
