“Shogun” wins 11 Emmys and has further chances at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Top nominee “Shogun” won a whopping 11 awards at the Creative Arts Emmyand tried many more before the night was over.

The steady stream of wins resulted from the 25 nominations the show received between Sunday’s creative ceremony, which primarily honored behind-the-scenes crew members, and the main primetime Emmy Awards ceremony on Sept. 15, which aired on ABC.

“Shogun”, The FX show about political machinations in feudal Japan won in categories such as costumes, makeup, editing and stunt work, and Néstor Carbonell also received an Emmy for best guest actor in a drama.

When he accepted, Carbonell thanked the crew and then marveled at how many of them were in the audience.

“You’re all here! You’re all nominated!” said Carbonell. “I love this team sport.”

The high total for “Shogun,” which has received critical acclaim and audience acclaim, could be a harbinger of a big night for the series when Dan and Eugene Levy host the main Emmys at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the same venue that hosted the two Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday and Sunday.

“The Bear,” the most nominated film in the comedy category with 23 nominations, won four times, including an Emmy for best guest actor for Jon Bernthal and best guest actress for Jamie Lee Curtis.

And Michaela Coel won Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

While Sunday night’s Creative Arts Awards focused on screenplays, Saturday night’s Emmys were awarded for reality and variety TV.

Maya Rudolph and Angela Bassett were among the winners Saturday night. Rudolph won her sixth Emmy for her work as a voice actress on the animated series “Big Mouth.” Bassett won her first for her narration of the National Geographic wildlife documentary series “Queens.”

Both nights of the show will be edited into a single two-and-a-half-hour show that will air on FXX on September 14 and stream on Hulu the following day.
