The video shows a dog chewing on the battery, which then explodes and bursts into flames on what appears to be the dog’s bed. Two frightened dogs, including the one that accidentally started the fire, stand some distance away, barking.

“Fire departments across the country are encountering fires caused by these batteries, and we want to educate the public about the use, safe storage and proper disposal of these potentially dangerous batteries,” the fire department said, according to USA Today.

Tulsa Fire warned that lithium-ion batteries can cause deadly situations. “Lithium-ion batteries are known to store a significant amount of energy in a compact space. However, when that energy is released uncontrollably, it can generate heat, produce flammable and toxic gases, and even lead to explosions,” said Andy Little, Tulsa Fire spokesman.

“Many people keep these batteries at home for convenience, unaware of the potential dangers they pose,” Little added.

Collin Rugg, who shared the video on X, claimed the pets escaped from the house through a dog door.

“I am glad that the animals were able to escape unharmed”

Many X users reacted to the above video, with one commenting, “Wow. I’m glad there was a dog door. Hopefully the house wasn’t badly damaged.” “Batteries need to be made more durable and safer. About time!” wrote one user, while another said, “I’m glad the animals were able to escape unharmed. Lithium batteries have some issues that need to be addressed!”

“Whoa – okay, time to think about leaving those lithium-ion batteries within reach of our furry anarchists,” one user wrote, while another said, “Thank God they got out! I was scared!” “This is wild and happens more often than you think,” one user wrote. Another said, “I’m glad the animals survived.”
