Shark! People spot fins near Swans Island and Blue Hill Bay

These days, shark sightings in the waters off the coast of Maine seem to be becoming more and more common.

We’ve known they’ve been appearing in the deeper waters around the state for years, but recently they’ve been making their way into shallower waters.

In the last week alone, several people have found fins in places much closer to shore than expected.

Fox 22 Bangor reported that people reported seeing a large shark, larger than the 22-foot boats in Toothacre Cove, swimming in the waters off Swans Island on Sunday.

Some people in one of the boats managed to use bait to entice the shark to move to more open waters, the report said.

But then on Tuesday someone else discovered and recorded this video, presumably the same shark in the same water.

The animal appeared to be caught in the low tide and was attempting to swim further out to sea when it was discovered.

Another shark, possibly the same one, was spotted in Blue Hill Bay on Tuesday night. A woman said her son saw what many believed to be a basking shark in shallow water in the area.

Sadly, just a short time after the video was released, an update was shared showing that the shark had died and was stuck on the rocks.

It now seems that we will continue to find these large fish closer to the coast rather than further away.

It’s just something we have to get used to.
