Shannon Sharpe addresses his recent Instagram Live mishap.

Sharpe, 56, caused a stir on Wednesday, September 11, when he accidentally went live on the social media platform while engaging in intimate acts.

“(I’m) someone who is extremely, extremely private, and for one of your most intimate details, the audio recording, to be out there for the whole world to hear, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons,” the former NFL tight end said on his “Nightcap” podcast on Wednesday before speaking in the third person. “People rely on Shannon. Shay Shay Media … ESPN, there are a lot of people that rely on him at all times.”

Sharpe noted that even “behind closed doors” he tries to “maintain a certain level of professionalism.”

“I’m very disappointed in myself, not because of the act itself – there are millions and billions of people of consenting age who participate in such activities,” the NFL Hall of Famer said. “But the fact that you can hear the most intimate details in the audio recording, that’s disappointing to me.”

Sharpe said the sexual act was “not staged” and then explained exactly what happened as the situation escalated.

“I came in, threw my phone on the bed and engaged in an activity. I had never been on IG Live, I had never turned on IG Live,” he admitted, adding that he “doesn’t know how it works.”

After the live performance, Sharpe explained that his phone started blowing up because people were trying to reach him.

“(My friend) Jamiesaid, ‘Shannon, you’re on IG Live.’ I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’ … He goes, ‘They could hear it. … Sounds like you had sex.’ Man, my heart sank into my pants,” Sharpe said. “It sank into my pants.”

Sharpe’s podcast co-host, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnsonshared a similar opinion.

“I’m astonished. I never thought you, uncle, would ever do something so out of character,” Johnson said on Wednesday’s podcast episode. “A little unprofessional. I’m not mad, I’m deeply disappointed because I have higher expectations of you. … This really shocked me completely.”
