Sexual assault near Gracie Mansion: 19-year-old woman rescued by doorman

UPPER EAST SIDE (WABC) — Police are searching for a suspect in the Upper East Side who sexually assaulted a woman on the street.

The attack occurred near Gracie Mansion around 1:20 a.m.

According to police, the man threw the woman to the ground, sexually assaulted her and then fled while she screamed.

A doorman standing nearby heard the woman’s screams and rushed to help.

“As I was walking down the block, I saw this man running toward York. I tried to tell him to stop or ‘Who are you?’ but he just kept running. I helped the little girl. She was on the ground, bleeding, crying and in shock,” he told Eyewitness News.

The suspect was last seen traveling east on East 90th Street and remains at large.

The victim was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center where he is recovering.
