Ulster have confirmed that Ireland Sevens star Zac Ward will join the province’s senior team for an “extended trial” period leading up to the autumn international window.
Ward, 25, from Ballynahinch, scored four tries for the Irish sevens team at the Paris Olympics this summer, helping them to sixth place.
Due to his performance in the sevens game, Ward was named Sevens Player of the Year at the Rugby Players Ireland awards ceremony in Dublin earlier this year.
“It’s great to welcome Zac to the team as we step up preparations for the new season,” said Bryn Cunningham, Ulster’s Head of Rugby Operations and Recruitment.
“Zac has just had a successful time in the national sevens team and we believe this is a good opportunity for him to bring his skills and qualities to the group in the coming weeks.”
Ulster are preparing for their first full season under head coach Richie Murphy and have also signed former New Zealand U20 link-up Aidan Morgan and South African wing Werner Kok in the off-season.
Ulster face Benetton and Exeter in pre-season friendlies before the 2024–25 United Rugby Championship season begins with a home game against defending champions Glasgow on September 21.
