September 29th could be a big day for Tony Hawk fans

Activision has started advertising the 25th anniversary of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skaterwhich fuels anticipation that big announcements could be imminent. The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater hit stores on September 29, 1999 and became an instant classic. The critically acclaimed skateboarding game sold millions of copies and spawned a hugely successful franchise.

The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Sequels took the series to an even higher level, with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 is considered by many to be one of the best video games of all time. Pro Skater 3 And 4 are valued as highly as the Underground Duology. Unfortunately, after the Tony Hawk’s Underground games that caused the franchise to falter somewhat. American Wastelandwas great, but didn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessors. Project 8 was another step down, as was Test sitewith Pro Skater 5‘s miserable reception that put the franchise on ice. Activision finally bundled the first two games into a single package called Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2but since the collection came out in 2020, the series has been quiet.


Now there is new hope that a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Video game project of some kind is announced. As Push Square has discovered, Activision has announced the various Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater social media channels with new graphics, including a new logo for the 25th anniversary of the series. However, this is by no means a sure sign that a new Tony Hawk The game is announced, but it does mean fans should keep an eye on September 29th as a precaution. After all, what’s the point of celebrating the anniversary if there’s no product to promote?

Even if there are no new Tony Hawk video game in development, many fans would jump at the chance to revisit the classics. While updated versions of the first two Pro Skaters Games are available, the other Tony Hawk Titles are trapped on older consoles. This means fans cannot play popular games like Tony Hawk’s Underground without digging out their sixth generation video game consoles, which is highly impractical. The fact that all Tony Hawk The fact that the games use licensed soundtracks makes it difficult to bring them to new platforms, but perhaps an agreement can be reached.


The latest word about Pro Skaters 3 + 4 is that the project was rejected by Activision. Apparently Activision wanted Vicarious Visions, now known as Blizzard Albany, to focus on Call of Duty instead. However, Xbox is now owned by Activision, and perhaps the new leadership has expressed interest in reviving the franchise. If so, September 29 could be a big day for Tony Hawk fans, but if not, it will be interesting to see what exactly Activision has in store to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater is a series of skateboarding games by Activision. The original trilogy of games, developed by Neversoft and released between 1999 and 2001, was a huge success with critics.

2002’s Pro Skater 4 was also well received, although 2015’s Pro Skater 5 received a brutal 32 metascore on PS4. The first two Pro Skater games were remastered in 2020.
