Semi-trailer driver is shocked when cyclist does a wheelie in front of him

Graham Attwell was still shaken as he recounted one of the most disturbing things he had ever experienced in his 27 years as a lorry driver.

Attwell was driving south on Highway 19 near Campbell River toward Jubilee Parkway when he encountered two young people on bicycles riding toward him on the shoulder of the road.

“I see cyclists all the time and I usually move a little to the side – and then at the last minute I noticed this kid doing a wheelie right in front of my truck. I was scared to death,” he told CHEK News.

His dashcam recorded him approaching the two boys, one of them stopping on his back wheel and seemingly intentionally driving into the lane directly in front of Attwell’s truck.

“Yes, if there had been someone next to me, it would definitely have been an accident of some kind and I would have done everything I could not to hit the boy,” he added.

He knew the lane next to him was clear, so he turned left at the last second, but he was still unsure whether the boy had been hit or not.

“My heart was racing and I didn’t know at first if I had hit him or not. I had to pull over to calm myself down. That took about ten minutes and I just sat there,” he said.

Even more disturbing, the other boy on the bike appears to have recorded the whole thing on his cellphone and there is speculation that this could be some sort of social media challenge.
