DETROIT – The second victim of the tragic shooting at the Eastern Market tailgate party has been identified as Jalen Welch, 25, of Detroit.

Officials confirmed the victim’s name and age on Tuesday (September 17).

Rayshawn Bryant, 40, and Welch were shot and killed on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Shed 6 after the Detroit Lions game in Eastern Market at 4:30 p.m.

Officials say Welch and the Oak Park shooter got into an argument when the 25-year-old man was shot.

Bryant’s friends and family said he tried to play the peacemaker before he, too, was shot.

A candlelight vigil in Bryant’s honor was held at Shed 6 on Monday evening, with hundreds gathering to celebrate his life..

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, but the Oak Park resident accused in the shooting has not been arrested as of Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Due to the tragedy, Eastern Market has canceled its tailgating event for the Lions game on Sunday, September 30, 2024.

The decision was made to pay respect to the two victims.
