The Southeastern Conference’s dominance in college football continued in Week 4, even though two of the top-ranked football teams had a bye.
Both No. 1 Georgia and No. 4 Alabama had their off weeks before a highly anticipated meeting of participants in last season’s SEC championship game in Tuscaloosa in Week 5. No. 2 Texas, on the other hand, handled Louisiana-Monroe with flying colors, with Arch Manning making his first career start.

No. 5 Ole Miss edged Georgia Southern 52-13, while No. 8 Missouri needed two overtimes to beat Vanderbilt 30-27 in Columbia. Meanwhile, No. 16 LSU and No. 24 Texas A&M defeated unranked opponents UCLA (34-17) and Bowling Green (26-20), respectively.
The highlight of the week was, of course, the SEC duel between No. 7 Tennessee and No. 13 Oklahoma. Not only was it the opening game for both teams in the 2024 conference, but it also marked Josh Heupel’s return to Norman, Oklahoma, where he excelled as a player and coach for the Sooners. The Vols won 25-15 in a game that wasn’t as close as the score suggested.
