SEC again comes in at number 9 in the top 25

The USA TODAY Coaches Poll was released on Sunday following the conclusion of Week 5 on Saturday evening and, as usual, the SEC was all over the poll, with 9 of the conference’s teams re-ranked in the top 25.

Among those 9 teams, an astounding 4 of the top 5 teams in the poll were from the SEC. The SEC’s nine teams included Texas, which moved from its previous No. 2 spot to the top spot after beating No. 1 team Georgia in this thriller at Alabama last week. The Bulldogs slipped from No. 1 to No. 5 in Sunday’s poll.

Meanwhile, Alabama moved up two spots from No. 4 to No. 2 after the Crimson Tide swept the Bulldogs in Tuscaloosa.

After No. 3 Ohio State, which was the only non-SEC team in the top five, Tennessee came in at No. 4, two spots higher than last week. The Volunteers were idle in Week 5, but still rose and overtook Georgia.

Missouri was the next SEC team in the poll, with the Tigers also moving up two spots from No. 11 to No. 9 despite not playing in Week 5.

The SEC team that suffered the biggest drop was, unsurprisingly, Ole Miss, which fell six spots to No. 11 after an inexplicable home loss to Kentucky on Saturday. LSU moved up one spot to No. 12 after easily beating South Alabama on Saturday night, Oklahoma also moved up one spot to No. 17 after a road win against Auburn and Texas A&M moved up three spots to No. 21 after that he had held back Arkansas.

SEC programs Kentucky and South Carolina each received votes to participate in the poll, with the Wildcats receiving 17 votes and the Gamecocks receiving 1 vote following the shocking upset at Ole Miss.
