Sean Combs, known as Diddy, was arrested Monday, according to a person familiar with the investigation.

According to a spokesman, he was arrested in the lobby of a New York City hotel.

Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, issued a statement saying, “We are disappointed in the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s decision to pursue what we believe is an unjustified prosecution of Mr. Combs.”

Diddy, he said, “is not a perfect person, but he is not a criminal. To his credit, Mr. Combs has been consistently cooperative with this investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve judgment until you know all the facts.”

“These are the actions of an innocent man who has nothing to hide and he looks forward to clearing his name in court,” Agnifilo said.

It was not immediately clear what charges the rapper-turned-music mogul was arrested on, but the arrest came amid a wave of sexual harassment allegations against him and an ongoing federal investigation.

The federal investigation became public in March when federal agents executed search warrants on his properties in Los Angeles and Miami.

Investigators questioned several people in connection with allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and the recruitment and distribution of illegal drugs and firearms, a source familiar with the investigation told NBC News in March.

The search warrant for Combs’ property came from the Southern District of New York, NBC News previously reported.
