Sean Combs was placed in the same cell in a Brooklyn prison as convicted crypto fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried. The New York Times reports.

The two are not cellmates in the traditional sense, sharing the same small prison room; rather, they both sleep in a large dormitory-like room at the Metropolitan Detention Center with several other defendants. Just confirmed the agreement through a source, but the prison bureau declined to comment on the matter.

The agency said it “does not release information about detention conditions, including dormitory accommodation or internal security measures for individual detainees.”

Combs has been in the MDC since his arrest last week. The hip-hop mogul, who has faced a wave of abuse and assault allegations over the past year, has been charged with conspiracy to commit organized crime and sex trafficking. The indictment accuses Combs of abusing his wealth and power to run a criminal enterprise aimed at “his own sexual gratification.” Combs has pleaded not guilty to the three charges against him.

Combs’ efforts to secure bail have so far failed. His lawyers initially offered him a huge package that would have included a $50 million bail bond, the passports of his daughters and mothers, the equity in a Florida condo and house arrest with GPS monitoring. But the judge denied the request, citing “very significant concerns,” including his alleged substance abuse, “anger issues” and allegations of witness tampering.

In his appeal of the sentence, Combs also promised to undergo weekly drug tests, to forbid visits from women other than family members, and to have no contact with any potential witnesses in the case. Another judge upheld the original sentence.

Bankman-Fried has been in the MDC since last fall. Despite being sentenced to 25 years in prison for orchestrating a massive fraud involving the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, which he founded, Bankman-Fried asked to be allowed to remain in the MDC while his lawyers prepared an appeal. That appeal to overturn his fraud conviction was finally filed earlier this month.
