Seahawks WR DK Metcalf takes off and scores a 71-yard touchdown

SEATTLE – Every team wants to get off to a fast start, but coach Mike Macdonald put an emphasis on that with the Seattle Seahawks this week after their first two wins got off to a couple of rocky starts.

Message received.

The Seahawks took a 17-3 lead over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Lumen Field after Geno Smith threw a 71-yard touchdown to DK Metcalf on the final play of the first quarter. Metcalf now has three touchdowns of 70-plus yards in his career, tying him with Daryl Turner for the most touchdowns in team history, according to ESPN Research.

The play marked Metcalf’s second touchdown of the season after he and Smith combined for a 56-yard touchdown in Seattle’s win over the New England Patriots in Week 2.

Metcalf set up Seattle’s first touchdown by catching a ball with his shoulder over Kendall Fuller in the red zone. Running back Zach Charbonnet found the end zone from 4 yards out on the next play.

The Seahawks also got a 56-yard field goal from Jason Myers on their first possession. The Dolphins’ field goal came after Smith, trying to avoid a sack in his own end zone, threw an errant ball that bounced off Charbonnet’s hand and led to an interception.
