Jon Berti hit a three-run home run while on rehab with the New York Yankees to lead the Somerset Patriots to an 8-4 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game at Hadlock Field on Saturday night.

Berti’s home run capped a four-run fourth inning that broke a 2-2 tie.

Max Ferguson and Phillip Sikes each hit a two-run homer for the Sea Dogs, who are 4 1/2 games ahead of Somerset in the second half of the Northeast Division.

SMALL LEAGUE: Luis Calo hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to take the lead, and Lake Mary, Florida, defeated Boerne, Texas, 10-7 to advance to the final of the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Florida will face Taiwan, which beat Venezuela 4-1, on Sunday afternoon. It will be the first appearance of a Florida team in the final since 2003.

CAR RACING

INDY CAR: Santino Ferrucci won the first pole of his IndyCar career and secured AJ Foyt Racing the best starting position for Sunday’s race at Portland International Raceway.

Ferrucci, who benefited from the first-year alliance between Foyt and Team Penske, defeated Will Power to give Foyt his first pole since Takuma Sato a decade ago in Detroit.

Alex Palou, a two-time Portland winner, qualified third despite going off course early in the last group.

FORMULA 1: Lando Norris drove a breathtaking lap to qualify on pole position at the Dutch Grand Prix ahead of three-time world champion Max Verstappen.

With gusts of wind from the North Sea creating unpredictable conditions for the drivers, Norris was way ahead of everyone else on his final lap, beating second-placed Verstappen by 0.356 seconds.

Verstappen has won all three races at Zandvoort, Netherlands, since the Dutch Grand Prix returned to the F1 calendar in 2021.

NASCAR: Three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen will drive full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for Trackhouse Racing in 2025.

The 35-year-old New Zealander will drive the No. 88 Chevrolet for Trackhouse, taking over a number that was last used in the series by Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Hendrick Motorsports.

Van Gisbergen will join Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez to give Trackhouse an expanded three-car team.

TRUSSES: Fierceness fended off a late charge from Thorpedo Anna to win the $1.25 million Travers Stakes, thwarting the mare’s bid to become the first female winner of the race in Saratoga Springs, New York, in over a century.

Fierceness ran 1 1/4 miles in 2:01.79 under John Velazquez, earning $9.80, $5.70 and $3.40. Fierceness, last year’s champion 2-year-old, was the losing favorite in the Kentucky Derby in May.

Thorpedo Anna brought $5 and $3.20. Sierra Leone, runner-up in the Kentucky Derby, finished third as the 8-5 favorite in the field of eight and paid $2.20 to appear.
