Saturday’s altercation near Corn Palace Carnival leads to police intervention – Mitchell Republic

MITCHELL – An altercation at the Corn Palace Festival Saturday night required police to be called, although no major injuries were reported.

At around 5 p.m., Mitchell Police received reports of an altercation at the corner of Seventh Avenue and Main Street, near the carnival grounds. Officer David Sarne of the Mitchell Police Department said the incident involved two people – an adult and a juvenile.

The situation escalated into a physical altercation, which attracted the attention of the surrounding festival-goers. Passers-by intervened and successfully separated the parties involved before the police arrived on the scene. One of the people involved in the altercation suffered minor injuries.

Sarne said the dispute is under investigation, but the exact cause is still unclear. No charges have been filed yet.

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Mitchell Republic.” The name “Mitchell Republic” is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of summarizing previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
