SAN ANTONIO (August 21, 2024) — San Antonio International Airport (SAT) reached a new milestone in July, making it its busiest month ever. According to the airport’s passenger data, 1,032,610 passengers flew to and from SAT – surpassing the previous monthly record of 1,000,172 set in July 2023. That represents a 3% increase in passengers.

“We continue to see record-breaking passenger numbers at SAT,” said Jesus Saenz, airport director for the City of San Antonio Aviation Authority. “We are growing daily, with new destinations and flights being added each year. As more people choose to fly from SAT, more airlines are responding to that demand and offering more service.”

Here are some other milestones SAT has recently achieved:

  • The July record marks the second time the airport has exceeded the one million passenger mark.
  • The two-month record streak that began in May 2023 is still ongoing.
  • SAT’s busiest year is 2023 with almost 10.7 million passengers.

Several airlines flew more seats to San Antonio in July compared to July 2023. The airlines with the largest increases include Spirit Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Aeromexico, Frontier Airlines, Volaris, Sun Country, Viva Aerobus, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

On July 10, Spirit Airlines added a new route to its growing portfolio at SAT, launching twice-daily nonstop service to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). This complements existing service to the Dallas area from American Airlines serving DFW and Southwest Airlines serving Dallas-Love Field (DAL).

Here’s what you can expect from SAT in the coming months:

  • United Airlines will add a second daily flight to San Francisco (SFO) starting September 26.
  • Volaris will offer daily nonstop service to Monterrey (MTY) starting November 3. This new service complements the existing service to MTY with Viva Aerobus, which currently operates up to three times a day.
  • Delta Air Lines will launch daily nonstop service to Boston (BOS) on November 11. The new service will be the airline’s seventh nonstop destination from SAT and will be offered year-round.
  • Southwest Airlines will resume its holiday nonstop service to Colorado Springs (COS) on November 23. This service will be offered on Saturdays through January 5 and nearly daily during the week of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
  • Viva Aerobus will launch a new nonstop service to Guadalajara (GDL) on December 2. The service will be offered four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Currently, Volaris offers service to GDL from SAT up to twice a day.
