USAA employs around 19,000 people in San Antonio.

San Antonio-based insurance and banking giant USAA has laid off more employees.

Officials at USAA, one of the city’s largest employers, confirmed the layoffs Wednesday but declined to say how many people would be affected. The layoffs followed another wave of layoffs in April that eliminated 220 jobs.

The latest job cuts are the seventh for the company in the past two years.

“We regularly evaluate and adjust our operations to more effectively serve our members,” spokesman Roger Wildermuth said in an emailed statement. “USAA continues to hire across the company to meet changing business needs, with more than 8,300 positions filled already this year. We remain focused on providing exceptional products and service to our members.”

USAA still employs 37,000 people, including 19,000 in Alamo City.

Citing “online chatter” Express Newswhich first reported the news, said the cuts affected USAA Federal Savings Bank and its compliance and consumer lending staff.

This wave of layoffs follows a series of departures of senior executives at the company.

In August, CEO Wayne Peacock announced his impending retirement, and the company also confirmed the departure of other key banking and compliance executives, including Paul Vincent, president of USAA Federal Savings Bank.
