Defect on the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra

Samsung Galaxy Ultra Watch hasn’t copied everything

One user experienced the action button falling off after about a month of using the Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Samsung apparently refuses to help even though it is still under warranty.

Samsung unveiled a new rugged smartwatch on June 10 that borrows more than just its name from the Apple Watch Ultra. Design aspects, including the orange accents and strap, bear more than a passing resemblance to Apple’s product, although Samsung has long used the “Ultra” name.

One unfortunate customer received his Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 20, only to have the action button pop off in mid-August, according to a Reddit post. The user hoped Samsung would send him a new replacement unit instead of repairing the defective one, but Samsung refused.

When the user sent the device in for warranty repair, Samsung received a bill for $107. Samsung appears to be claiming that the user may have damaged the device in a way that voided the warranty.

While it’s impossible to know if the user somehow broke the rugged smartwatch or if it’s actually a defect, it seems like the right solution for Samsung to simply replace the device. Apple usually provides a replacement device when a defect is found, if only to figure out what caused the defect in the first place.

Maybe Samsung should take the time to figure out what could be causing its rugged watch to fall apart so easily instead of worrying about $107. If the story spread outside of Reddit, like we spotted it on Brandon Butch’s X-account, perhaps Samsung could make a better decision for its customers.
