Automotive LPDDR4X memory passes qualification with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis

Expanded range of automotive storage solutions to ensure long-term supply chain stability

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced memory technology, today announced the successful qualification of Samsung’s automotive LPDDR4X memory for use with the Snapdragon® Digital chassis from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. The LPDDR4X memory is intended for use in premium infotainment systems (IVI) and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Samsung’s LPDDR4X automotive qualification represents the company’s committed and long-term support of customers with a variety of new products and technologies for automotive applications. This also helps ensure robust supply chain stability and enhanced support for ecosystem partners using the Snapdragon Digital Chassis.

“With a wide range of AEC-Q100 compliant1-qualified DRAM and NAND products, Qualcomm Technologies is an ideal partner to collaborate on long-term customer solutions,” said Hyunduk Cho, vice president and head of the Automotive Group in Samsung Electronics’ memory business. “Thanks to Samsung’s leadership in memory solution design, manufacturing and packaging, our work with Qualcomm Technologies can help support rapid development cycles while ensuring reliability, verification and exceptional product control that are essential to the automotive industry.”

Samsung is also developing the next generation of automotive LPDDR5, with samples expected to be available in the fourth quarter of this year. The LPDDR5 product will support the fastest speed currently in the automotive memory market of up to 9.6 gigabits per second (Gbps), even at extreme temperatures.

1 The AEC-Q100 standard is a stress test qualification for packaged integrated circuits (ICs) used in automobiles.
