“We can run the football,” Pittman said on the ABC broadcast. “And any time we can run the football, we can run play-action. We protect it pretty well. They had a total blitz that caught us down there on our first drive.”

The Razorbacks finished the first quarter with 172 total yards of offense and moved the ball at will for the first 15 minutes, including 114 yards on the ground.

The offensive opened large gaps for the defenders, with Ja’Quinden Jackson He scored 10 runs for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other hand, Arkansas played tough defense against Oklahoma State’s offense.

“We have to keep playing hard,” Pittman said. “We’re defending well. We’re making contested balls on defense. We have to put more pressure on the quarterback. Otherwise he’s going to pick us apart. So we have to get a little better at the pass rush, but we’re doing a good job against the run.”

Oklahoma State strikes back

Shortly after Pittman’s interview with the ABC broadcast team on the sidelines after the first quarter, disaster struck for Arkansas.

quarterback Taylen Green had been playing at an extremely high level as a dual-threat option, but eventually he came under pressure from the Cowboys. A pass rusher came at him from the outside and hit him on the throw.

The ball went out of bounds, and Kale Smith intercepted it for Oklahoma State and ran it all the way back, resulting in a 73-yard touchdown return.

With 8:50 minutes left in the first half, Arkansas was leading 14-7, but the Razorbacks’ momentum suddenly came to a halt.
