SAGINAW, MI — Saginaw County’s Central Operations Center is implementing a modern phone system designed to improve service to the community.
The new AI-based system is designed to streamline non-urgent calls so dispatchers can focus on emergency calls that require immediate attention, resulting in improved response times and quality of service.
The system is scheduled to go live on Tuesday, August 27. Staff asked county residents to speak to the new system as if they were speaking to a person. Residents should speak naturally and let the system guide them through the process.
In case of emergency, residents should continue to call 911. Non-emergency incidents should be reported to 989-797-4580.
In a press release, Central Dispatch explained the key features of the system and how they benefit the community.
1. Improved efficiency: The system ensures that non-urgent calls are promptly routed to the appropriate agency or that non-urgent information is accurately captured. This allows dispatchers to focus on emergency calls, improving response times and ensuring a high quality of service for both urgent and non-urgent cases.
2. Intuitive call handling: The system allows callers to interact naturally. Simply describe your situation and the system will understand and process your request. This makes the experience intuitive and user-friendly.
3. Comprehensive support: All calls are reviewed by a dispatcher and if additional information is required, a follow-up call or text message is provided. This ensures that every request is treated with the same level of attention and care as if you were speaking directly to a dispatcher.
4. Seamless emergency routing: When the system detects that a caller needs direct assistance from a dispatcher, the call is immediately routed to ensure seamless and comprehensive assistance.
