Ryan Day predicts a drama-free RB tandem of TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins

Ryan Day knows that balancing the talents of two elite running backs can sometimes be a problem, but he doesn’t see a potential problem in a backfield that features TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins.

Henderson is the more experienced of the two and returns to Columbus for his final season. Henderson is one of the most productive running backs on the field, but has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons.

Judkins played his first two college seasons for Ole Miss before transferring to Ohio State. Day declined to name a starter earlier this week, but reiterated on Thursday’s radio show that both players are needed.

The head coach described both backs as “bringing different things to the table” and admitted that the two “know they need each other.” Day also said that Ohio State will have enough play this season to supply every player. In fact, Day said earlier in his press conference that the Buckeyes will use three running backs deep in the heat of the season opener.

The ability to run the ball, with Henderson and Judkins in the backfield and Will Howard’s dual threat at quarterback, is also something Day called “game-changing.” If that trio stays healthy, Chip Kelly will be able to pressure opposing defenses in a variety of ways.
