Roquan Smith is angry about Chiefs player who pushed him to the sideline after the game: “He should take better care of himself”

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith issued a postgame warning to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Peyton Hendershot following an altercation on the sidelines at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

In the Ravens’ loss to the Chiefs to open the new NFL season, there was a moment early in the fourth quarter when Kansas City’s star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was desperately trying to get a first down.

After that, Smith appeared to have pushed Mahomes too late, and the quarterback fell sprawling on the turf, causing the home crowd to freak out because they thought a penalty should have been called.

The yellow handkerchiefs, however, remained in the referee’s pockets. Smith, who waved his hands at the moment to signal that it should not be a personal foul, said Mahomes tried to sell it as a penalty.

“Oh, he flopped. Yes, he flopped,” Smith told reporters after the game. “That’s why the refs didn’t blow it — it was a great decision by the ref not to blow.”

But when Smith waved for a no-whistle, Hendershot, who was playing in civilian clothes as an inactive Chiefs player during the game, was seen taking exception to Smith’s behavior toward his quarterback.

The broadcast showed a moment where Hendershot appeared to shove Smith, which the linebacker also confirmed in a message after the game.

“But whoever (number) 88 is, I don’t know who he is, but he better watch out for himself,” Smith said. “He made a little, nifty push.”

Reporters quickly questioned Smith again to confirm what had happened, as he too appeared to have turned around after Hendershot shoved him on the Chiefs sideline, causing a scrum before the tension dissipated.

“Whoever number 88 is, I have no idea who he is, but I’ll see him when I see him,” Smith concluded before answering another question.

The Chiefs continued to score on the drive, and rookie Xavier Worthy scored the second touchdown of his career on just his third touch of the ball in his NFL debut, a 35-yard run due to poor coverage.

Smith’s personal stats were solid, as he led the Ravens with seven tackles (four solo) and also intercepted Mahomes late in the first half. However, in his first regular-season appearance, he had a horse collar tackle while trying to bring down Rashee Rice.

The Ravens ultimately lost tragically to the defending Super Bowl champions Chiefs, despite looking like they had a chance to tie the game or even win after tight end Isaiah Likely caught what appeared to be a touchdown on the final play of regulation. Likely’s toe was an inch off the field of play.

Since these are not division opponents, the Ravens will not see the Chiefs again until a possible playoff duel, as was the case earlier this year in the AFC Championship Game.

If and when that happens, Smith made it very clear that he will seek out Hendershot after issues with his behavior in Week 1.
