Rodgers returns from injury, but 49ers beat Jets

Aaron Rodgers’ return from injury ended in defeat as the New York Jets lost 32-19 to the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in California.

Rodgers was back on the field nearly a year after tearing his Achilles tendon in his debut for the Jets, which sidelined him for all of last season.

The 40-year-old quarterback, who was named NFL MVP four times during his time with the Green Bay Packers, threw for 167 yards, a touchdown and an interception on Monday night, but that wasn’t enough to beat last year’s Super Bowl runner-up.

“It was a great feeling,” Rodgers said. “I’m so grateful to be back in my clothes. So many people have helped me get to this point.”

“I’m really grateful to my surgeon, my family, my friends, the staff and the training staff for helping me come back. Of course I wanted to try it and feel the physicality.

“After I threw a few balls and made a shot, it felt good.”

The home team had to secure the win without running back Christian McCaffrey, who was out shortly before kickoff.

The 28-year-old was unable to play due to a calf and Achilles tendon injury.

This created an opportunity for Jordan Mason, who was starting a game for the first time in his third NFL season.

He finished the game with an impressive 28 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown.

Mason wasn’t the only 49er who shone. Jake Moody also made six field goals, setting a franchise record.
