AMES, Iowa (AP) — Rocco Becht threw two touchdowns and ran for another, and Carson Hansen scored two points as No. 20 Iowa State rolled to a 52-7 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday.

Matt Campbell, who has coached Iowa State for nine years, won his 56th game, tying Dan McCarney for the most wins in program history.

“The team is still really important in this world today,” Campbell said. “This isn’t about one individual. I’m just grateful to have been able to be in one place with so many great people for so long. We have great coaches, great players and of course a great presidential-level administration. So it’s a joy to be here.”

Becht scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and his touchdown passes of 10 yards to Tyler Moore and 16 yards to Jayden Higgins gave the Cyclones (3-0) a 31-0 halftime lead.

Hansen, who saw little playing time in his freshman year, ran for 58 yards on nine attempts and forced a fumble late in the third quarter after an interception by ISU backup quarterback Connor Moberly.

Hansen scored his first career touchdown on a 1-yard run and added a 3-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

“It’s a dream,” Hansen said. “Kudos to the offensive line because they blocked brilliantly this week.”

The Cyclones ran for 237 yards and finished the game with 490 total yards of offense, their best since 2021.

The Cyclones entered the game with a total of 175 yards on 50 rushing attempts, which they had achieved in their wins against North Dakota and Iowa.

Iowa State held the Red Wolves (2-2) scoreless until late in the fourth quarter, allowing only 182 yards.

Arkansas State quarterback Jaylen Raynor struggled against a ranked opponent for the second week in a row, completing 5 of 16 passes for 68 yards with two interceptions. In last week’s loss at Michigan, he threw for 140 yards and was intercepted.

“(Raynor) just needs to work on his consistency,” Arkansas State coach Butch Jones said. “He was still a great teammate out there, but I thought we just needed a spark.”

Timmy McClain threw a 27-yard pass to Hunter Summers, who scored the only point for the Red Wolves.

Iowa State: The Cyclones finally got their running game going, scoring their most points since 2021 and the defense recorded four sacks in a dominating performance.
